Mānasāra
Architecture, town planning and measure
Эта страница ещё не переведена на русский язык. Показан английский текст.
The most systematic treatise on measure and module — the standard reference for ayadi formulae, proportion and the classification of building types.
Seventy chapters run from the qualities of the architect through site, mandala, town, house, palace and temple to furniture and vehicles. Dimension is everywhere derived: a module is fixed, and every part is expressed as a ratio of it rather than an absolute size.
The ayadi calculations — remainder tests applied to a proposed dimension — belong here, and are widely quoted out of context. In the text they are a final check on a dimension already arrived at structurally, not a way of generating one.
