BRAND IDENTITY

How 81Matrix looks and sounds

The identity carries the same argument as the scholarship: measured, warm and unhurried. This page is the reference for anyone publishing under the name — editors, translators, partner institutions and press.

The mark

The mark is a set of concentric navy rings drawn outward from a cyan centre, with four cyan accents marking the cardinal points. It reads as a plan seen from above: an ordered field radiating from a quiet middle, oriented to the four directions — the brahmasthāna and the diś, rendered as circles rather than a grid.

Ring weight is even throughout; the cyan appears only at the centre and the four cardinal ticks and is never used to fill a ring. The mark pairs with the wordmark set in the body face, wide-tracked caps, with the tagline beneath in cyan.

Two lock-ups are approved: horizontal (mark left, wordmark right) for headers and documents, and stacked for square formats. No other arrangement is authorised.

HEADINGS — SOURCE SERIF 4 Knowledge before application
BODY & WORDMARK — SOURCE SANS 3 Set body copy at 16px with generous leading and a measure no wider than 44em. Devanagari and Arabic are set in Noto Sans, matched to the same optical size.

Using the mark

01 Clear space Keep space equal to the height of the mark on every side. Nothing — type, rule or image edge — enters it.
02 Minimum size The mark with wordmark holds down to 120px wide on screen and 28mm in print. Below that, use the mark alone.
03 Backgrounds Full colour on cream, sand or white. On deep teal or any photograph, place the mark in a white circular field first — never directly on the image.
04 Do not Do not stretch, recolour the rings, fill them with cyan, outline, add effects, rotate the mark, or set the wordmark in any face other than the body face.

Plain over ornate Explain a Sanskrit term the first time it appears. Reverence is shown by accuracy, not by elevated register.
Admit the limits Where evidence runs out, say so. "We do not know" is publishable; a confident guess is not.
